Previously teased through a video Ubisoft released, Far Cry: New Dawn has been announced at the 2018 Game Awards. The game takes place 17 years after the ending of Far Cry 5. There looks to be plenty of new additions and changes in the upcoming title. An official trailer has been revealed and can be seen below.
Spoilers for Far Cry 5 ahead
One of the endings of Far Cry 5 saw Hope County blown up by Joseph Seed’s hidden nuclear bombs. He and the player had survived the blasts by taking refuge in an underground shelter, so it looks as if the two may still be wandering around. This “good” ending had been hinted at throughout the title with radio news updates detailing increased nuclear tensions around the world.
Ubisoft’s upcoming title is set to be the first direct sequel in the Far Cry series. Previously, the company had produced a main entry in the franchise followed by a spin-off. Far Cry 3 was followed by Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4 with Primal, and now Far Cry 5 has New Dawn. This is sure to contain many of the same assets, including its map.
Players interested in exploring the newly ravaged Hope County can do so on February 15, 2019. Far Cry: New Dawn will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $39.99.
