Despite being behind closed doors at PAX East, a snippet of an older Clementine in The Walking Dead: The Final Season‘s tech demo has been leaked by way of YouTube, which was behind closed doors. While not much is shown, what is shown is very promising. The game definitely gives off vibes of Telltale’s first season of The Walking Dead with much grittier colors and a more post-apocalyptic feel, like it was stated in the PAX East panel.
In many respects, The Walking Dead put Telltale on the map, so it’s only fitting that they are able to finish Clementine’s story and bring the narrative full circle; instead of Lee there to protect Clementine, it is now Clementine there to protect AJ. While the third season was a bit of a mixed experiment, there is no way that Telltale Games will fail to deliver on what many believe is their crowning achievement. Considering their latest success with the miraculous Batman: The Enemy Within, Telltale has fine-tuned their craft and there’s no reason why The Walking Dead: The Final Season won’t be as masterful, or rather, surpass the excellence of the first two seasons.
We’ve grown up with Clementine along her journey. We’ve informed who she’s become both as her keeper and as playing as her herself. Season three does seem like somewhat of a waste in retrospect, but, if the final season is anything like the first two seasons of the series it will not disappoint. It will tug at the heartstrings and bring us to tears, again, and again, and again.
The ending will be bittersweet, as Clementine will be a hard character to let go of, but this is one story that Telltale will deliver on.
