According to retailers, Gamestop and Amazon, Wolfenstein: Young Blood will not come with a cartridge in its physical case on Nintendo Switch. Instead, the case is only going to contain a download code, similar to Epic Games’ Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle. Gamers have been quick to voice their concerns online and are upset at the company’s decision over this. Bethesda is yet to offer an official statement on the matter confirming whether or not a cartridge exists.
The Nintendo Switch has faced numerous issues with publishers not placing full versions of their game on a cartridge. Capcom’s Mega Man Legacy Collection, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster, and Bethesda’s own Wolfenstein 2 have been guilty of this practice. These games mentioned that these titles require a download code, however Wolfenstein: Young Blood’s does not clearly display this.
This next installment in the franchise picks up two decades after the events of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. It is set to follow BJ Blazkowicz’s twin daughters as they travel to Paris in search of their missing father. The 1980s set story features the familiar first-person gameplay of the series but now contains a cooperative multiplayer story experience. Owners of the deluxe edition are granted a second code to share with a friend to complete the game or they can choose to play with an AI.
Arkane Studios and MachineGames’ upcoming title is set to launch July 26 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
