The Matrix Resurrections plot leaked two months ago by way of YouTuber Geekdom101. Given the description of the trailer for the film showed at CinemaCon, it is essentially confirmed that Geekdom101’s plot summary is legitimate and accurate. If there are no major changes in post-production, this could possibly eclipse the original trilogy and set up a new sequel trilogy. Mind you, this article will spoil the ending and the huge twist that occurs at the end of the movie.
- 60 years have passed since the end of the War with the machines.
- Niobe is still alive and aged-up, taking Morpheus’ place as a leader.
- Machines and Humans work together in many cases.
- Neo is alive in the Matrix and is a video game developer. He developed a trilogy of videogames for Warner Bros. (yes I know) called “The Matrix.”
- Neo does not remember his life as The One, but has PTSD and flashbacks from the events of the first three films.
- Neil Patrick Harris plays Neo’s therapist.
- Harris’ character is named “The Analyst”, who was instrumental in bringing humans and machines together.
- Jessica Henrick’s character is named “Bugs.”
- In the opening scene of the film, Bugs is being chased by Agents.
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen plays a young Morpheus. The real Morpheus died of old age; Abdul-Mateen’s Morpheus is a bootleg copy created by Neo when he rebooted the Matrix. He is an agent.
- Neo encounters “Tiffany”/Trinity in a coffee shop. Neither of them remembers eachother.
- Bugs and Morpheus work together to “ressurect” Neo once more as The One.
- Agent Smith is back but is played by another actor. He and Neo have a huge action scene in the middle of the film.
- Smith is in league with The Merovingian.
- Smith isn’t seen again for the rest of the film.
- Neo regains his memories as The One, but cannot fly, something he struggles with doing throughout the film until the end.
- There is a standoff between The Analyst and Neo in the coffee shop. Some kind of deal is made; if Trinity walks in and doesn’t remember Neo, The Analyst will take control of The Matrix. If Trinity does remember Neo, The Analyst will leave, as he cannot stop Neo at that point.
- Trinity remembers Neo and a huge action sequence/chase sequence takes place.
- It’s revealed that Neo feeds power from Trinity and vice-versa; Neo cannot fully utilize his powers of The One without Trinity. This is why Neo cannot fly.
- Trinity gains the powers of The One as well; the last scene is of the two of them flying.
- It is revealed that Neo is in control of the Matrix, in a huge twist, which is a setup for subsequent films potentially.
What do you think? There are still a lot of pieces that are missing, but, all indications are this could be one of the best Matrix films ever made if all the cards fall into place the way they appear to. Let us know what you think in the comments!
