A comparison of Skyward Sword HD versus the original version has surfaced, and the results are stunning. Skyward Sword originally came out for Nintendo’s hit console, the Nintendo Wii, right at the end of the console’s life cycle. For this reason, sales weren’t as good as they could have been. This time around, Skyward Sword HD is coming out right in the middle of the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle, giving it plenty of time to sell at the peak of both Zelda’s and the Switch’s popularity. Skyward Sword was a somewhat divisive game; some hated, the motion controls, others hated it, and some had issues with Wii Motion Plus not working correctly, causing them to have to constantly recalibrate the controller. This should not be an issue on the Nintendo Switch. For those who don’t like the motion controls, there will also be standard controls as well. This is very important, as the Switch Lite community can play it too. If they didn’t add standard controls they’d not only be alienating a good portion of their base, but they would limit the people they could sell it to. That being said, these images are gorgeous and show how smooth Skyward Sword HD is compared to the original.
The upgrade in the visuals is staggering. I myself have been playing Skyward Sword the last few days and seeing these images makes me so much more aware of the technical flaws of Skyward Sword. That being said, it wasn’t made in high definition, and it pushed the Nintendo Wii to its absolute limits. The Switch version won’t.
This is the way Skyward Sword was always meant to look, and how it was always meant to be played. You’d only be hurting yourself if you didn’t pick this up for the Switch upon release.
