The Nintendo Switch continues to skyrocket to success around the world, but specifically in Japan Nintendo’s hottest new system has now officially outsold the original PlayStation 4 and PS4 Slim. In it’s 5 year lifetime (which is shocking enough already) the base and slim PS4 models have managed to ship 6,540,000 million units. In the 21 months the Switch has been out it has managed to ship 6,670,000 million units in Japan alone.

It’s also important to remember that these numbers don’t include the PS4 Pro, however if we look at the numbers based on the amount of time these systems have been released, it’s easy to see that the Nintendo Switch is quickly outpacing the PlayStation 4. Looking at the total numbers worldwide, the PS4 in all of it’s incarnations have sold roughly 88 million units over the course of a little over 4 years. The Switch has managed to sell 22 million in under 2 years. While the Switch still has a long way to go, it will be interesting to see in a couple years where the sales numbers are at.

What do you think? Do you think the Switch has a chance at beating the powerhouse this generation that is the PlayStation 4?
