Some games are theoretical, meaning some are yet to be announced (though rumors heavily suggest they will be), and some have already been announced for 2022. With that being said, let’s look at the most anticipated games to come out for the Nintendo Switch.
Bayonetta 3
Bayonetta 3 was first announced during The Game Awards in 2017. Almost five years later, the game is finally makings its release, which goes to show you never announce a game too early. Metroid Prime 4 is also a victim of this, as they had to scrap the development team and start from scratch. Nonetheless, the trailer for Bayonetta 3 looks spectacular and should have fans in a frenzy. Hopefully, the release date won’t push back like so many other times.
Splatoon 3
Splatoon was a surprisingly fun new IP Nintendo cooked up and it hasn’t stopped there. Splatoon 2 has just fallen out of the top 10-selling Switch games, so there will no longer be any updates on its sales, but rest not! Splatoon 3 is right around the corner and was the surprise announcement of last year’s February Direct. Splatoon is the Call of Duty of Nintendo games, and arguably better. The game epitomizes what Nintendo games are about, and that’s fun. As of June 2021, the game has sold 10.71 units worldwide.
Triangle Strategy
Triangle Strategy is one among many Square Enix RPGs to come out on the Nintendo Switch. It utilizes a 2D 3D effect, making it visually stunning. It aims to be roughly 50 hours in length and takes place in the continent of Norzelia. What’s most exciting about the game is that your choices affect the overall outcome of the title. While we haven’t seen this in action per se., it was announced last February when the game was unveiled. This could cause players to turn against you and a host of other problems. It’s a turn-based RPG and from my knowledge, there is nothing like it. Triangle Strategy comes out on March 4. See ya then!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
While Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has yet to be announced yet, in all likelihood the game will be announced at some point this year. Whether it will be a sequel to X or Xenoblade 2, a mixture of the two, or a whole new narrative completely is unknown at this point. Heck, I’d love a port of Xenoblade X, though I don’t think that’s happening. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is such a timeless classic, moreso than the original 2, and setting out on an adventure with the old cast would be fitting. What would also be cool is if some of the Xeno 1 characters were thrown in for good fortune. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is such a beautiful story and the developers have said they want to make a second one, so why not? For being a JRPG with, at the time, a limited install base, managed some great sales. The i2020 CESA Games White Paper stated as of December 2019, the game had sold 1.92 copies. As of December 2020, Xeboblade Chronicles: Definitive edition sold 1.52 million units, according to Nintendo.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Of all the games to this year, Breath of the Wild 2, is, without doubt, the most-anticipated game on the Nintendo Switch. Fans of the franchise have been waiting 16 years for the return of Ganondorf, and now, we’re finally getting it. A sequel to Breath of the Wild no less! Breath of the Wild has sold 25.80 million copies, which is a lot to live up to. Despite this, Breath of the Wild 2 doesn’t appear to be a carbon copy of its predecessor. Which is a wonderful thing. There is an eerie feeling in both of the trailers, and if Ganondorf does in fact return in husk from, the game may be flat-out terrifying. As a huge fan of Ocarina of Time, I cannot wait for fort this game, even if it is the sequel to a lackluster entry in the series (just my opinion.)
