The Luigi’s Mansion remake for the 3DS is in wonderful hands. Grezzo, who developed Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask for Nintendo’s portable system, is developing the remake of Luigi’s Mansion. This was revealed by the Australian rating board. While Grezzo has posted job listings in the last year having to do with HD, many thought that their next project would be another Zelda HD remaster. While this is still a possibility, this is the first concrete evidence we have of their next endeavor. The original Luigi’s Mansion was a launch game for the Nintendo GameCube and this title will be a remake of the first.
Given Grezzo’s track record, especially when it comes to remakes, is top-notch. There is no doubt that their iteration of Luigi’s Mansion will be superb and of the highest quality. It’s only a shame that Grezzo hasn’t been able to escape the umbrella of 3DS remakes. Yes, last year they did release their first original title Ever Oasis for the Nintendo 3DS, but, they are much too talented to keep developing remakes. Perhaps they could take the reigns of a brand new 3DS Zelda game, much like Capcom did with the Oracle games? They did work on TriForce Heroes, so they are familiar with top-down Zelda games. Grezzo is too talented to be playing second fiddle. Hopefully, the Luigi’s Mansion remake allows them to break out of their bubble and start crafting their own original games, as the development studio is incredibly talented. That much was apparent when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D came out over the last seven years.
That being put aside, with Grezzo at the helm, Luigi’s Mansion should be nothing short of magnificent for the system, which is not lacking in new titles.
