The Legend of Zelda has some extraordinary games. There are a few though that stand above the crop. With Zelda’s 35 Anniversary coming up, there have been rumblings of remakes and remasters for the anniversary. There are a number of games that deserve a remake or remaster for the Zelda 35th anniversary, but there are a few that stand above the top and need to be remade for the classic franchise’s historic milestone. Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most important franchises and a compilation for the series’ 35th anniversary on the Switch seems inevitable.
Ocarina of Time
Ocarina of Time is the greatest Zelda game of all-time, if not the greatest game of all-time. It has everything; story, gameplay, extraordinary dungeons, mind-bending puzzles, and excellent bosses. Given it came out for the Nintendo 64, it more than deserves a remake for the Nintendo Switch. If rumors are correct, and the recently renewed trademarks are anything to go by, it may just be getting it. Keep your eyes tuned.
Skyward Sword
Skyward Sword is the one game on the Nintendo Switch that has not received a remaster or a remake. It is prime for one on the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy on the Nintendo Switch proved that it is possible to integrate the motion controls necessary on the Switch, and there could always be an update on the Switch to allow the Wii Remote to be integrated into the Switch (this is very unlikely though), Skyward Sword needs an HD remake. It deserves it. It pushed the Nintendo Wii to its very limits and graphically, it didn’t come across as it was envisioned. Now, Nintendo could give it the chance to not only have more precise motion controls, but also introduce it to a whole new generation of gamers.
Majora’s Mask
Majora’s Mask is a cult classic. Although it is shorter and integrates a lot of the assets of Ocarina of Time, its side quests are legendary. It only has four dungeons, but those four dungeons are among some of the most difficult in any Zelda game. It is often overlooked, but Majora’s Mask deserves to be celebrated for Zelda’s 35th anniversary.
A Link Between Worlds
A Link Between Worlds is arguably the best 2D-Zelda game of all-time. Forget the other portable Zelda games as in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks — A Link Between Worlds not only built upon what A Link to the Past established but expanded far beyond it. It has the best puzzles in the Zelda franchise and some of the best dungeons. Better yet, it gives you the freedom to tackle the dungeons in any order you see fit. It set the stage for a game such as Breath of the Wild and deserves a full remake on the Nintendo Switch, just as much as any game listed here.
The Wind Waker
The Wind Waker has already received a remaster on the Wii U, but it deserves to be released in a compilation of games for the Zelda 35th Anniversary Collection. It is one of the defining Zelda titles and the first game that uses the lore from Ocarina of Time as its basis. It also has unique gameplay mechanics, as well as a massive overworld in the Great Sea. If any game deserves to be in the collection, The Wind Waker does, although it would not be a remake but a port of an existing game.
Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess is in the same boat as The Wind Waker. It is not a remake but is one of the games that deserves to be in a Zelda 35th Anniversary collection. It is one of the best entries in the Zelda series and has some of the best dungeons in the franchise. Despite the HD version being a port of the Wii U version, it deserves its spot in a Zelda 35th Anniversary Collection.
