The Nintendo Switch is receiving a plethora of games in 2019. From the new Pokemon title, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, several Final Fantasy games, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and a new Animal Crossing game, among others, it’s shaping up to be quite the year for the Big N. Some are first-party, some are third-party, but what are the most anticipated Nintendo Switch games of 2019?
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD
Final Fantasy X was the game that got me into Final Fantasy. To see it come out on the Nintendo Switch is fitting, considering the history between Square and Nintendo (despite their rough patches.) Final Fantasy X is a masterpiece, and X-2 is excellent, despite its wackiness. It will be one of the best ports to arrive on the Switch this year and to be able to play it on the go is a huge plus.
Mortal Kombat 11
Mortal Kombat is another series with a legacy on Nintendo systems. It was recently revealed in an event in Los Angeles and looks fantastic. The developers have even said the Switch version is shaping up to be spectacular. If you own a Switch, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t buy Mortal Kombat 11 on the system, especially considering the series’ legacy of excellence on Nintendo systems.
Animal Crossing
People have been waiting years for a new Animal Crossing game. Finally, we’re getting one, and it’s coming out this year for the Nintendo Switch. It’s addicting, it’s endearing, and who can resist the lovable Isabelle? I know I sunk a lifetime into Animal Crossing New Leaf, and the opportunity to play the series on my television is a nice bonus.
Pokemon Switch
Pokemon Let’s Go! was nice and all, but everyone has been waiting for a true successor to Pokemon Sun/Moon. They’ll get that with the next entry in the Pokemon series for the Nintendo Switch. Not much is known about the game other than the fact that it’s coming out this year, but that’s a part of the fun. Game Freak surely won’t disappoint.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion 2 is finally getting a sequel on the Nintendo Switch. The original recently received a remake for the Nintendo 3DS, and if the second game is any indication, the third game in the series will be a keeper. Luigi is finally getting his chance to shine, being in Mario’s shadow for so long. Nintendo hasn’t shown much of the game, but there’s quite a bit of hype behind the title.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem was reborn on the 3DS and has become one of Nintendo’s staple franchises on the system. Will it translate to the Nintendo Switch? Most definitely. Three Houses is one of the most anticipated games confirmed for the Switch this year and the quality of the series keeps getting better and better.
Steins;Gate Elite
Steins;Gate is both one of the best visual novel/adventure games of all time and one of the best anime series’ of all time. Steins;Gate Elite combines these into one, incorporating scenes from the anime in key places while also having brand new animated footage. We attended a panel on the game at AX 2019 and it looks fantastic. It’s one of my most anticipated games of the year and the fact that it’s releasing on the Nintendo Switch, so it can be played on the go, is an added bonus.
