Finally! Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite anime series, by far. It’s been six years since Evangelion 3.0 was released with no news of the next film in sight. When Hideaki Anno, one of the most brilliant storytellers of our time, decided to re-tell the Eva story I was beyond ecstatic. The series not only holds special meaning to me, but to people all over the world. And this is why it’s so impactful.

”Eva” is a story that repeats.
It is a story where the main character witnesses many horrors with his own eyes, but still tries to stand up again.
It is a story of will; a story of moving forward, if only just a little.
It is a story of fear, where someone who must face indefinite solitude fears reaching out to others, but still wants to try.”

-Hideaki Anno

Isn’t this the epitome of what life is all? Struggling, facing your fears, and ultimately finding the willpower, however irrational it may be, to stand up again and keep attempting to move forward? That is why Eva resonates with us all so profoundly and why 20 years later we’re receiving this re-telling. It’s still relevant.

Today Khara released a short teaser for the final installment in the quadrology. It’s only 20 seconds of footage, but that’s 20 seconds more than we’ve received in six years. Curious as to what is shown? Watch below!

Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 is officially slated for a 2020 release, eight years after 3.0/3.33‘s release. As long as Kaji is in it and it’s the incredible finale I know it will be, it’ll be well worth the wait.
