Today at PAX East, Telltale Games revealed the first bit of information about the final season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, which promises to be bittersweet. A panel took place with members of the Telltale team, voice actress Melissa Hutchison, the voice of Clementine, and members of Skybound Entertainment.
There is an obvious time jump since A New Frontier, as both AJ and Clementine are older; especially Clementine, who seems to have matured a great deal. The first episode primarily takes place in a boarding school, where we meet several new characters who are roughly Clementine’s age. While the previous season of The Walking Dead was too colorful for the art director’s tastes, they decided to go back to a darker and bleaker aesthetic. The look is also going to be more comic-book like than previous seasons.
Four new characters are also being introduced in the first episode of the new season, where Clementine meets them at the boarding school: Marlon, Violet, Louis, and Ten. Marlon has an intimidating exterior, but a gentle heart. Marlon also has a dog named Rosie who the writers confirmed will not die in the first episode. Violet is a hardened survivor. Louis is somewhat of the opposite, as she tries to survive the horrid Walker apocalypse through art and refuses to let go of the old world. Ten is a young boy who is facially disfigured.
A New Frontier was a disappointment in many respects. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t live up to the promise of the first two seasons, which were masterpieces. In many respects, The Walking Dead put Telltale on the map. The fact that now they get to close out Clementine’s story after four seasons is astonishing. It shows a lot of promise and is going back to the series’ roots.
A release date has not been announced as of yet, although hopefully, it comes sooner than later.
