Back in April, an art direction map of the then-supposed Red Dead Redemption 2 leaked on NeoGAF. This leak was then verified by techradar through an independent source close to development. The source had another very interesting claim: the game would take place before the events of the first Red Dead Redemption and would take place east of the original game. Red Dead Redemption 2 may be a prequel.

A trailer for the upcoming Red Dead game will be released in two days on October 20, so we should have a definitive answer by then. The fact that the map was verified by the same source that claims the game is a prequel does give it some credence, especially considering techradar is a credible outlet. Prequel or not, fans are going wild over the prospect of a new Red Dead Redemption game, which will be released next year. The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 may be a prequel does open up some interesting narrative possibilities though.

Whether Red Dead Redemption 2 may be a prequel or not will be answered in a few days. In the meantime, there is so much anticipation for the trailer for Rockstar Games’ upcoming blockbuster title, coming this Thursday.
