Nintendo released assets and screenshots yesterday for the upcoming Pokemon remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The pair of games are faithful recreations of the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl with a unique HD art style to boot. The remakes are incredibly reminiscent of Nintendo’s remake of Link’s Awakening; both were mobile games from the top-down perspective which are now being remade in high definition, pixel by pixel, for the Nintendo Switch. In fact, The Pokemon Company seems to be emulating the Zelda business model that Nintendo has perfected over the last four years, which is the highest praise a franchise can give to another. The comparisons between Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Link’s Awakening HD are bound to happen, given their similarities from a graphical perspective and the fact that they are both highly successful mobile gaming titles that are coming in high definition, for the Switch, priced at $59.99. That latter is a point of contention with many fans, as they don’t feel the games warrant such a price point. The only thing is, people buy them regardless. The market determines the price. The one thing that makes these Pokemon remakes a more justifiable purchase is the fact that there is so much content, especially post-game. You can pour countless hours into it, unlike Link’s Awakening. That being said, the nostalgia is strong with the Diamond and Pearl remakes and the art style gorgeous. We cannot wait for these to be released so we can get our hands on them for ourselves. With that said, here are the screenshots that come directly from Nintendo PR.
