Nintendo released their most-downloaded games for 2020 in Japan for the Nintendo Switch, and to no one’s surprise, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was at the top of the list. What is surprising though is the amount of Nintendo games on the list that are years old. Games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are still going strong. Breath of the Wild and the two Pokemon games also make the cut, but this isn’t surprising given the popularity of both franchises. These are six games that are well over a year old that are still selling strong. That is a phenomenal sign of the quality of games Nintendo has put out on the Switch. Even Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition makes the list, which is a niche (yet phenomenal) game.

2020 was a mixed year for Nintendo, but we have little inkling as to what Nintendo has in store for us in 2021. With Zelda’s 35th anniversary and Pokemon’s 25th anniversary fast approaching, Nintendo is sure to deliver yet another stellar year.
