The Nintendo Switch has now surpassed the SNES console, in terms of sales. Nintendo has revealed the latest sales figure for the popular handheld system which states it has moved 52.48 million units. This passes the SNES’ lifetime hardware sales of 49.1 million. Due to this, the company’s latest system is now placed at third for all-time consoles sold behind only the NES and Wii, respectively. In addition to this news, Nintendo also updates sales figures for their most popular titles. Some notable numbers are as follows:

  • Switch Lite – 5.19 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 22.96 million
  • Pokemon Sword and Shield – 16.06 million
  • Luigi’s Mansion 3 – 5.37 million
  • Super Mario Maker 2 – 5.04 million
  • Link’s Awakening Remake – 4.19 million
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses – 2.58 million
  • Astral Chain – 1.03 million

It’s interesting to note that Pokemon Sword and Shield have already become the fifth best-selling games on the system. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains as the top sold piece of software followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It must also be stated that the Switch Lite has not taken away from base unit sales. These numbers show that there is a market for a more handheld console and Nintendo looks to capitalize on it.
