Nintendo has confirmed with their latest sales numbers that Nintendo Switch has outsold both the Wii and the PlayStation 1. In its lifetime (approximately five years) the Switch has sold 104.54 units, while the Wii sold 101.63 units. The Nintendo Switch is now Nintendo’s best-selling home console if you consider it to be a home console aside from a portable. The PlayStation 1’s lifetime sales were 102.49, so the Switch has surpassed that too. It is also purportedly the fastest-selling console of all time. Now all that’s standing in the Switch’s spot for the top is the Nintendo GameBoy and the Nintendo DS. The DS sold a whopping 154.04 million units, while the GameBoy sold 118.69 units. While the DS will admittedly difficult to overtake, the GameBoy is much for feasible by the end of the system’s lifespan.

The Switch is already Nintendo’s highest-selling home console, and considering the market and issues with the supply chain, I could easily see the Switch lasting another five years ago. They have the best games, best exclusives, and have a mass appeal. Nintendo has finally gone back to its roots. Nintendo is a company that is based on making fun games. If you’re looking for a different experience, go elsewhere. The point is that they have something for everyone, not just kids and not just adults.

The fact that the Nintendo Switch has outsold the PlayStation 1 is nothing short of staggering.
