Nintendo should make A Link to the Past for Nintendo Switch. There. I said it. Some are getting tired of the ports and remakes for the Switch, but, this is a game that people have been asking for ages. Miyamoto pondered making a remake of the classic at one point, but opted to make A Link Between Worlds instead for the Nintendo 3DS. A Link Between Worlds proved that the overworld for A Link to the Past and the dungeons could be re-created in near perfection, with some twists and turns. Now, it’s finally time to remake A Link to the Past in true high-definition glory. Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch proved that this could be done. Grezzo did an incredible job and recreated the game with incredible accuracy. In fact, they should be responsible for remaking A Link to the Past. Now though, it’s A Link to the Past’s turn for a full HD remake.

A Link to the Past Remake for Nintendo Switch

A Link to the Past is by far one of the best Zelda games. It set the entire backstory for the entire series, which is no small feat. Ganondorf, the story of Ocarina of Time; all of that is laid down in A Link to the Past. It’s one of our top five Zelda games for a reason. It’s a 19-year-old classic and has informed all Zelda games that have succeeded it. In fact, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess are near copies of the game. The story is simple, yet by that same token, its execution is so well done that it works tremendously. It’s not an easy game. My last playthrough, which I just finished last night, included 119 games (119 deaths.) Despite this though, it’s a lot of fun. It is able to have both a balance of high-quality puzzles and superb combat that a game, such as Breath of the Wild, of the original Legend of Zelda, lacks. It has a total of 12 dungeons, which for a Zelda game is quite a bit, and includes some innovative puzzles that marvel even today (I know; I just played through the game over the last few days.) Link’s Awakening is a great game, and Grezzo did a fantastic job remaking it for the Nintendo Switch, but, A Link to the Past is the game that should have gotten that remake. It is by far the superior game.

A Link to the Past Remake for Nintendo Switch

A Link to the Past also introduced some of the classic Zelda melodies that are still prominent in the series even today. Ganondorf’s theme, Zelda’s Lullaby, the Hyrule Castle theme, and the Master Sword motif all originated in A Link to the Past. All are still staples of the series. Considering what an incredible job Link’s Awakening did reorchestrating the music for that title, just imagine the quality the reorchestration would be in A Link to the Past. It would be majestic. A Link to the Past may not be the best Zelda game (though one of them), but it is the defining Zelda game in the series. There’s no denying that. This is why Nintendo should remake A Link to the Past for Nintendo Switch. It would introduce the title to a brand new generation of gamers, piggybacking off of the success of Breath of the Wild, which isn’t a bad thing. If we had it our way, there would be a complete Zelda HD Collection including the best of the Legend of Zelda games.

A Link to the Past Remake for Nintendo Switch

A Link to the Past set the standard for the Legend of Zelda series. It’s only just that it receives an HD remake in the same vein as Link’s Awakening. Yes, A Link Between Worlds was a remake of sort, but A Link to the Past is an almost 20-year-old classic. Many Zelda fans aren’t even 20 years old and have never played it. This would give them the opportunity to experience this majestic game for the very first time, especially on the heels of the success of Link’s Awakening and Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch. A Link to the Past set so many standards for the series; the backstory of the series, the story of Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf as a once mortal man (demon theif), the music, the dungeons, the puzzles, aspects of the combat, and so much more. And they all add up to not only one of the best Zelda games of all-time, but one of the best games of all time, which IGN recently ranked as the second-best game ever (quite an accomplishment.)

It’s only justified that one of the top five games of all time receive a full remake in full HD splendor, especially given the success of The Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Switch and its recent remake outing, Link’s Awakening HDA Link to the Past is one of the best Zelda games and Nintendo would be foolish not to remake the game for the Nintendo Switch, period.
