The trend for miniature retro consoles is continuing with the upcoming Neo Geo Mini. SNK has just announced that they will be releasing this home console sometime in the near future. This console is to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the SNK brand.
The system will include 40 titles that were included on the original. In addition to this, there will be an HDMI port, headphone jack, and two controller ports. The screen measures in at 3.5 inches but no AC adapter will be included. The release date, price, and lineup of games are yet to be announced.
The Neo Geo was originally released by SNK in 1990. The system had an incredibly high price point of $650. It was so expensive due to the fact that the console was so powerful. Not only this, but the cartridges had a similar price problem. The home console was modeled after an arcade cabinet and thus had power similar to one. The Neo Geo was marketed as the Advanced Entertainment System (AES) and had a long life cycle. Its final game was Samurai Shodown V Special released 14 years later in 2004.
The Neo Geo Mini will no doubt allow for more gamers to be able to experience the console since most hadn’t before.
