According to the series’ official Twitter account, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 will be releasing in Japanese theaters next June 2020. This is right off of the heals of the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of the film which was shown around the world on July 6. It seemed as if the film would never be released, as Anno was fixated on other projects, such as Godzilla, for quite some time. He’s finally giving his full attention to Evangelion though, and the light is right at the end of the tunnel for long-time Eva fans. The re-telling (or perhaps quasi-sequel?) finally has a release window, and barring any delays, fans are sure to be most pleased.

I tried to buy the same poster (minus the June 2020 on it) at Anime Expo, but sadly, these posters weren’t for sale. Being one of the few who was able to see the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds at Anime Expo 2020, it would be an understatement to say that I am ecstatic. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 starts out with a large action set piece, which is the norm for these films, but equally adds a “wtf” factor to it. If this is Anno’s crowning achievement, and that’s why it’s taken him so long to finish it, we should be in for one hell of a ride.
