The original Xenoblade Chronicles turns eight years old in North America today, April 6, 2020. Thanks to Operation Rainfall, the game saw a North American release on the Wii, which was never supposed to happen. Now, the game has spawned an entire franchise, including two other games, and a remake that is coming out in a month and a half on May 29. This is quite a turnaround for a game whose future was uncertain from the get-go. It’s a masterpiece, managing to become one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs in the history of the genre. It has memorable characters such as the Shulk, Reyn, Melia, Dunban, and Riki, and some of the best locales, music, and villains to ever grace a video game. The voice acting is iconic not only for its quality but for its British accents as well, something that has carried throughout the dubbing of subsequent games in the series.
While we here at VGCultureHQ believe that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is superior to the original, that could all change with the remake. The graphics are superior to the original, it has brand new content such as an epilogue (and possibly more that we don’t know about), and due to upgraded production values, could become superior to its sequel.
Happy Birthday Xenoblade Chronicles! You deserve it, especially everything you went through to become a worldwide hit. Now, in a month and a half, even more people will get to experience such a special game on what is quite possibly Nintendo’s best console of all-time, and it will solidify the original Xenoblade as one of the best RPGs of all-time; it will maybe even cement it as the best Xenoblade Chronicles game.
