I am a huge Shin Megami Tensei fan. No, not the watered-down spinoff Persona, but the true Shin Megami Tensei. IV is one of my favorite games on the Nintendo 3DS, so I was delighted when Nintendo announced that Shin Megami Tensei V was in development for the Nintendo Switch. In over two years though, we’ve heard nothing regarding the title. This has lead many to believe that the game has been canceled, which would be most unfortunate. Atlus has been deadly silent on the subject.
This caused a Reddit user, u/someguy12121, to take it upon himself to contact Atlus in order to ascertain whether or not the game has, indeed, been canceled or not. Low and behold, he actually got a response! Atlus responded to him with a short but sweet e-mail.
Although this isn’t very thorough, Mr. Stone from Atlus’ customer support is very adamant that the game is still in development and any rumors of it being canceled are “made up.” The way it’s phrased is beautiful.
Nintendo hasn’t shown anything regarding Shin Megami Tensei V since the initial Nintendo Switch reveal event. If there’s any time to show new footage, along with a release window, it’s early next year. We still have no idea what software Nintendo has in store for us next year, but there are bound to be plenty of surprises (we need more than Xenoblade Definitive Edition and Animal Crossing, right?) Nintendo has been consistently pushing out high-quality content every month, and a release for Shin Megami Tensei V mid next year is not out of the realm of possibility.
Regardless of when it will be released, Shin Megami Tensei V is still in development, and this is excellent news.
