According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, the Nintendo Switch Lite and Link’s Awakening are selling very well and have a high attach rate. During a Q&A, Furukawa spoke about how Link’s Awakening and the Switch Lite released almost simultaneously. Partially because of this, and partially because it was originally a handheld game, they were bought in conjunction with one another. Both Link’s Awakening and the Switch Lite are selling incredibly well, which is only adding to Nintendo’s continued success.
Q: I’d like to hear more about the Nintendo Switch Lite users who are first-time platform purchasers. I understand that you use their Nintendo Accounts to track software sales trends, and I was wondering if there are other differences in software purchasing trends, such as if they are purchasing previously released software at a different pace than Nintendo Switch users.
Furukawa: We launched Nintendo Switch Lite simultaneously with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Since this is a game that was originally sold for handheld systems, many consumers bought it at the same time as Nintendo Switch Lite hardware. Other than that trend, the attach rate during the initial stage has been high for titles that are preferred by core gamers, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As the consumer base broadens, I think this might change.
Link’s Awakening is one of the best 2D Zelda games of all-time and it’s no surprise that it’s selling so incredibly well. It should be no surprise that the two are mirroring the success of Breath of the Wild and the original Switch, as both launched with each system and Zelda has become Nintendo’s flagship franchise.
