As if anyone needed another reason to purchase the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, a new trailer has just been revealed. During this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix showed off a fantastic video highlighting the game’s beauty alongside some new additions. The nearly three-minute spot had Cloud and company traversing through Midgar and displaying the gameplay mechanics. For those who haven’t seen it, they can do so below:
A few things to notice right from the start are the graphics. The cutscenes look absolutely phenomenal and show off the sheer amount of detail the developers put into this remake. I mean just look at how good the toads look in HD during their reveal. It’s not just its looks though. The graphics still appear just as stunning while in gameplay. Here, cutscenes and in-game footage swap in and out to differentiate the two. Yet, they both are of high-quality and are seamless and fluid. It is unknown whether the game plays similarly to 2018’s God of War in that there is no loading time between the cutscene and combat but certainly looks to be the case. Everything shown had a natural flow to it in this upcoming title.
Another noticeable inclusion is the sheer amount of story that is going to take place. Although Square Enix has come out and said that this is only a “part one” of sorts for the game, this may not be an issue. The trailer unveiled a numerous amount of story-based content in the game that can leave the player with plenty to do. With so many cutscenes and chapters, it does beg the question, “when does it end?” The original Final Fantasy 7 could span upwards of 60 hours to complete in its entirety. That’s a lot to accomplish but it’s also a lot to leave out should this game only take a portion of this. Time will tell on whether everything is presented fully, however there could still be a meaty campaign to be had.
On the topic of content, this release does not appear to be taking a very linear course as the tail end of Final Fantasy XV turned out. Rather, there are loads of mini-games that can be played instead of just treading through the story. Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s experience is much like that of other entries in the series. That is, it’s an involved world with plenty to do like working out in the gym. The trailer has Tifa doing pull-ups and working out with a trainer all while the player is pushing a corresponding button at the right time. These instances may be loads of fun and offer more substance to the game’s content.
Finally, this video gave fans that sensation of nostalgia while also fixing some problems found in the original. Fans are sure to notice the setup shown which is right before Cloud dons his famous dress attire yet it doesn’t give this away. You’ll have to purchase the game when it’s out if you want to see how this outfit looks in HD. On the other hand, the trailer showcases the infamous summoning sequences of the past. It’s often joked about on how long these take but here, it is much shorter. Even though it’s shorter, that doesn’t mean anything is taken away. These sequences appear just as dazzling, if not more so, except just a bit quicker. The developers have clearly learned from past designs and improved in a way that is more modern and possibly more enjoyable.
The trailer focuses on plenty of different aspects that help this game shine. Beautiful HD graphics, quick and dazzling summoning sequences, as well as a look at some nostalgic scenes, all help to make this trailer fantastic. This is far and away one of the most anticipated titles of 2020 and possibly one of the best games in the long-running franchise. March 3, 2020, can’t come soon enough as Square Enix’s long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake launches for the PlayStation 4.
