Nintendo has announced and released DLC for its exclusive battle royale title, Tetris 99In a Twitter post, the company revealed that this new content includes two offline modes, Marathon and CPU Battle. The former seeks a high score while the latter is the standard battle royale gameplay but with bots.

On top of this, Nintendo stated that a third Maximus Cup begins on May 17 and runs until May 19. The event is free for all players of the game. Users that earn 100 points can unlock an original Game Boy-inspired theme from the game’s 1989 launch. Earning points depends on the final ranking achieved by the player, which is as follows:

  • 1st: 100
  • 2nd: 50
  • 3rd: 30
  • 4-10: 20
  • 11-30: 10
  • 31-50: 5
  • 51-80: 2

Tetris 99 is free for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. In an effort to push memberships, Nintendo launched the game immediately after a Direct Showcase. It instantly became a sensation and provided a fresh twist to the popular battle royale genre, in addition to the franchise. Tournaments have also been added frequently to establish a dedicated user-base, while also offering prizes such as $10 in eShop credit.
