Thanks to two indie showcases at the end of last month, Nintendo’s September indie lineup is jampacked. From turn-based RPGs to puzzle-platformers, gamers will have plenty to choose from on this hybrid system.
Undertale
Toby Fox’s self-developed title has been announced for release on the Nintendo Switch. With only 2.7 years of developments, this game has gone on to receive high appraisal, even garnering multiple Game of the Year nominations. The critically acclaimed RPG, Undertale, launched on September 18.
Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D action role-playing game heavily inspired by 8-bit and 16-bit titles. This title runs at 60 frames-per-second, making its gameplay feel fast and smooth. Exclusively on the Nintendo Switch version comes a new outfit, a Tower Climb challenge, and two new abilities. Abylight’s upcoming release launched on September 6.

Bastion
Supergiant Games’ first release, Bastion, has received a port for the Nintendo Switch. It’s an original action role-playing game with a rich narrative. Uncover the secrets of the catastrophic Calamity event which destroyed the world into a variety of pieces. Featuring over 40 hand-painted environments and an original score, gamers are sure to spend hours on this title. Bastion launched on September 13 at $14.99.
Marble It Up!
A spiritual successor to Marble Madness and Marble Blast Ultra, Marble It Up! is a puzzle platformer where gamers can race against the clock or enjoy the rolling physics implemented. With 40 levels featuring different terrains and a replay system, there are tons to explore and collect. Online leaderboards and 60 frames-per-second will also make an appearance. Bad Habit Productions’ upcoming title releases on September 29 for $19.99.

Ninjin: Clash of Carrots
Pocket Trap has created a quirky beat em up which is inspired by anime. A ninja bunny sets out to save his village while using a variety of weapons. There are plenty of weapons to choose from, as well as headgear to customize the main character. Ninjin: Clash of Carrots also contains a survival mode and local/online co-op. Gamers can dive into this title on September 4.

Dust: An Elysian Tail
An animated action-adventure title featuring a rich soundtrack by HyperDuck SoundWorks comes Dust: An Elysian Tail. This nonlinear experience heavily encourages exploration. A physical release was available through Limited Run Games for a small period of time. The digital version of Humble Hearts’ title released on September 10.
Fans of indie games can expect another month filled with quality indie releases. The Nintendo Switch continues to produce a plethora of lesser-known titles that pack a punch. There appears to be no signs of slowing down, especially with the holiday season fast approaching.
