E3 is a special time of year. All the major developers and publishers come together and showcase what games they have to offer for the upcoming year or so to come. With E3 2018 right around the corner, what better way to kick off the celebration early by revealing the top 5 most anticipated games of E3 2018?
5. The Division 2
While the first installment in The Division franchise may not have lived up to expectations, it was still one of Ubisoft’s top-selling games in 2016. There is no doubt that Ubisoft has learned from the experience of the first game and is ready to develop a top-notch experience. There is so little known about the game at this point, but its only real competitor in the genre is Destiny 2, whose playership has dwindled dramatically. If The Division 2 can look at Destiny 2’s mistakes and build off of what they accomplished in the first game, the title is sure to be a winner.
5. Super Smash Bros. Switch
Super Smash Bros. is a staple when it comes to Nintendo systems. Very little is known thus far about the next installment in the Smash franchise, but with Masahiro Sakurai involved it is sure not to disappoint. With old characters and new sure to make an appearance, this will be a system seller for the Nintendo Switch, which is already selling at a record pace. Up until this point the Nintendo Switch hasn’t quite lived up to its potential as a party machine. Smash for the Nintendo Switch may just fulfill this role for the hit system. Nintendo is even going so far as to having attendees of E3 pre-register to play the game in order to avoid chaotic lines. That is how big this game is going to be.
3. The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II is the much-anticipated sequel to The Last of Us, which is regarded as one of the greatest games of all-time. The Last of Us managed to deliver one of the most remarkable narratives in video game history. It transformed the industry. There are a lot of pitfalls The Last of Us Part II could easily fall into, such as being a re-tread of the previous title, but it’s doing none of that. The title is taking a bold new direction and the characters seem to be profoundly impacted by the events of the first game. This will be the first time we will get to presumably go hands-on with the next installment in The Last of Us franchise, whose title eerily reminds us of The Godfather Part II. The game is sure not to disappoint.
2. The Legend of Zelda 3DS
Yes, this is speculation. But. There hasn’t been a true Zelda game for the Nintendo 3DS in almost five years since A Link Between Worlds. Rumors were swirling earlier this year that a new Zelda 3DS game was going to come out this year. The 3DS is not dead. With the recent release of the 2DS and Samus Returns, Nintendo doesn’t plan on giving up on the system anytime yet. While Breath of the Wild didn’t quite live up to the hype, a new 3DS title in the franchise will. A Link Between Worlds was the only 3DS title that truly took advantage of the 3DS capabilities of the aforementioned system. The puzzle solving was some of the best in the series and a brand new installment in the franchise on the 3DS, a return to top-down Zelda, would be more than welcome.
1. Gears of War 5
Thanks to a leak by Walmart Canada, we know that Gears of War 5 is being shown at E3 2018. Gears 4 was incredible and a fantastic addition to the series. The Coalition know what they are doing. The campaign was one of the best in the series, bar Gears 2. The multiplayer was extraordinary, which is par for the course. There is a lot of pressure on Microsoft to deliver quality exclusives at E3 and there is none better than Gears of War 5. It is the most anticipated game at E3 2018 and is sure not to disappoint.
