Ever since The Last of Us was released, fans wanted to know whether the game would see a sequel. It was a critically acclaimed masterpiece. Although there was word the sequel may not come, with the success of the first game, it is inevitable. Naughty Dog was busy with Uncharted 4 though, and they still have DLC on the way for that title. This leaves an interesting question though: when will The Last of Us 2 release date be?

There were actually a few slips by both actors and the development team at Naughty Dog. Nolan North, who plays Nathan Drake in Uncharted, said, “For now I know they’re doing Last of Us 2, but my character in Last of Us kind of met an untimely demise.” This is someone with intimate knowledge of Naughty Dog’s plans.

In an interview with Games Radar, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann talked about how before he was approached for Uncharted, he and The Last of Us  director Bruce Stanely were fantasizing about plans for a sequel.

“I’ve said this in the past – that when Bruce and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas.

“And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4.”

It was implied that after the Uncharted 4 DLC comes to completion, work will resume on The Last of Us 2.

Digital Spy speculates The Last of Us 2 release date will be June 2018 with a reveal at next year’s E3. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess, but there is one simple fact: it is inevitable.
