There are numerous incredible games coming out this upcoming autumn, but none so much as those about to be listed. Some are under the radar, some are AAA titles, but all of them have one thing in common: they’re the top 5 most aniticipated games of fall 2019. Some of them you may never have heard of, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they promise to be some of the best games to come out this year. And yes, November is technically fall, if you feel the need to question some of our choices, but these are the most anticipated games of fall 2019.

Crystar

Most Anticipated Games of Fall 2019

Crystar wasn’t originally on our radar, but, its panel at AX 2019 made a believer out of us. An RPG, emotionally heartwrenching tale has a central theme: catharsis. This is a term originally coined by Greek philosopher Aristotle. Aristotle stated that people make sense of their lives through stories, and stories give people an “emotional release” — a catharsis. Tears aren’t merely shed out of happiness or sadness, but out of sheer emotion bubbling up to the surface. Mirai, the protagonist, is on a quest to save her sister and catharsis plays a central role in the RPG.

Ai: The Somnium Files

Top 5 Most Games of Fall 2019

The latest from Kotaru Uchikoshi, the mastermind behind the Zero Escape games, comes a brand new title AI: The Somnium FilesThe Somnium Files is an adventure game where the main character delves into people’s dreams in order to solve murders. Of course, the story is much more in-depth than that, but anything coming from Uchikoshi is bound to be a masterpiece. One of the central themes of the title is love, and how love takes many forms (the Japanese term for love is ‘Ai’ which is used a number of different ways, such as AI, “eye”, one of the main character’s names Iris, etc.) The game was delayed until from July until mid-September and is guaranteed to be a hit.

Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the Call of Duty game gamers have been waiting forever since Modern Warfare was released. To its credit, WWII was a great installment in the franchise, but, everyone and their mothers have wanted an installment in Call of Duty’s landmark series. The tides of war have changed in recent years, and Modern Warfare portrays just that. After a number of lackluster entries in the Call of Duty franchise (minus WWII), Modern Warfare promises to be one of — if not the best entry in the series of all-time.

Gears 5

Gears 5 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and Microsofts one killer app for 2019. Rather than follow the Fenix family, it follows the journey of Kate, who is related to the late Locust Queen. What implications does this have? At this point, we’re not sure, but, Gears 5 promises to be one of the best entries in the franchise and the most intriguing. What role will Marcus and his son play in the game? As of this point, we do not know, but, we do know that the new multiplayer games are fun as hell, ala Escape mode. That, the other game modes, and the campaign have all the promises of the best entry in the Gears of War franchise.

Link’s Awakening

Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch is a surprise title for 2019. We leaked this title almost two years ago and low and behold, we were correct, as it was announced a year later. We had the chance to play it three times at E3, yet that wasn’t even enough. It’s charming, it’s nostalgic, and most of all, the artwork is adorable. Link’s Awakening is one of the darkest Legend of Zelda games, and dare we say even darker than Majora’s Mask. Though it’s not being highlighted as one of Nintendo’s must-have products, it very well may end up being the best game they come out with this year.
