The Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury’s launch has dwarfed all expectations and that of the sales of the original Wii U version at launch. The latest iteration of Mario on the Nintendo Switch is an enhanced port of a title that came out for the Wii U, but, at least in terms of physical sales, it has sold three times as many copies as its Wii U counterpart on the Nintendo Switch versus the Wii U version of the game at their respective launches. As it stands, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury’s launch on Switch is the third-largest Mario game launch behind Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which is good company to keep. The game was also the top-selling game in the UK last week. More sales data will be available as the numbers come in, but from all accounts, Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo’s hit console is, and will continue to be, a massive hit for the company. This is their first first-party game of the year, and what a way to kick it off. The next first-party game to be released is this month in Bravely Default II which will satiate the appetites of RPG fans on the Switch. Bravely Default II releases on the Switch this month on February 26.
