The title of the next installment in the Star Wars Saga has been revealed as Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. This may allude to the fact that Rey is, in fact, a Skywalker and JJ is sticking to his original vision, retconning Rian “Ruin” Johnson’s disregard for the vision of the trilogy.
JJ Abrams has also stated in a recent interview that the final installment in the Skywalker Saga was a very difficult task, as he had an outline for the trilogy and Johnson never conferred with Abrams and did his own thing. This wholly fractured the fanbase, as The Last Jedi was a horrible film and Lucasfilm employees doxed fans and attacked them, resorting to incessant insults simply because many fans had valid complaints about the film. Hopefully, this environment changes, but the toxic atmosphere within Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy is evident.
Abrams had and still has a daunting task to wrap the entire Skywalker Saga up in a single film. It would’ve been more than possible if he had some level of creative control over Episode VII, but Rian Johnson shattered that opportunity. Abrams understands Star Wars though and The Force Awakens was a solid film. He has the passion for the saga to be able to pull this off. The only question is, will Kathleen Kennedy and the higher-ups at Disney allow him to fulfill his vision?
