Masahiro Sakurai, the mastermind behind the Super Smash Bros. franchise, has once again and come out and said that the next DLC character in the series will be the last in Super Smash Bros. UltimateSuper Smash Bros Ultimate is one of the highest-selling games on the Nintendo Switch, pumping out 23.84 million units year-to-date. This is the third highest-selling Switch game behind Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 DeluxeNintendo’s hit system isn’t doing too badly itself, selling 84.59 units year-to-date with exponential growth. Here is what Sakurai had to say about the subject during the latest deep-dive into Kazuya.

Up until now, we’ve created all sorts of fighters and stages. Gathering all of these games, new and old, and compiling them into a single product is a task that has meant a lot to me. Now that I think about it, it’s been close to 10 years since Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems was in development. I’ve been working on this for a long time. You could call it my life’s work.

But finally, the next DLC fighter will be the last one. There won’t be any more after that. It’ll be a while before that announcement, but it’ll be available this year as planned so please be patient. It seems like the team will have to complete this project at home, right up to the end. Until then, we hope you enjoy playing as Kazuya Mishima.

Who will the next fighter be, or rather the final fighter be in Smash Ultimate? It’s probably only a few months to wait, in all likelihood, but, it’s sure to wow Nintendo fans as Sakurai has continued to do throughout this whole process.
