Blumhouse Productions has just shown off the first trailer for the upcoming Halloween movie. In it, Michael Myers returns to his hometown, after 40 years, for one final encounter with Laurie Strode.
The film is set to take the franchise back to the series’ roots. Jamie Lee Curtis has returned to reprise her role as Laurie Strode, sister to Michael Myers. Well, the sister part is not the case any longer. In the trailer, it is stated that the previous notion that Michael Myers and Laurie Strode are siblings is denied and stated as a rumor. This is the first case where the series mixes things up.
It is also revealed that this takes place 40 years after the original Halloween. Myers has been locked up in a penitentiary and his murders are being looked into once again. In doing this, the previous sequels have all been retconned. The upcoming film will only follow the events of the original, with none of the others being mentioned, including Halloween II and H20.
This is a bold move by the studio but is sure to pay off. The last time audiences were able to see the famous killer in action was in Rob Zombie’s 2009 remake. Fans have been clamoring for the franchise’s return but it has been caught up in development problems.
The upcoming John Carpenter produced horror film, Halloween will release in theatres everywhere on October 19, 2018.
