The latest issue of Famitsu revealed Japan’s 100 best-selling games of 2020. To no one’s surprise, Nintendo, and more specifically the Nintendo Switch, completely decimated its competition. The 12 of the first 13 titles are Switch games and 18 of the top 20 games are for the Nintendo Switch games. In the top 10, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons at number one; Ring Fit Adventure at number two; Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! at number four; Pokemon Sword and Shield at number five; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at number six; Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at number seven; Minecraft for Switch at number eight; Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics at number nine; and Super Mario 3D All-Stars rounding out the top 10. Super Mario Party and Splatoon 2 just missed the top 10 at numbers 11 and 13 respectively. This goes along with Shuntaro Furukawa’s strategy to get Switch owners to buy older games. Japan’s 100 best-selling games of 2020 were calculated by taking the sales from December 30, 2019, through December 27, 2020. Here is the list in full.
