In June 2021, Jenna Coleman, the English voice actor for the character Melia in Xenoblade Chronicles, appeared on a little-known gaming YouTube channel to discuss Xenoblade and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. During the interview, Coleman may have let it slip that she was in Xenoblade Chronicles 3; this was over six months before the game was even announced.
“God, when was the first game? Ten years ago? It was a long time ago, I did it pre-Doctor Who days and when they did they second one , they asked me to come back. And I think they’re going to do another. Common knowledge? Don’t know. Yeah, I think they’re going to do another. Not sure if I’m allowed to say that.”
Fanbyte caught wind of this and wrote about it last August. They claimed that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was supposed to be revealed early last year and come out this past holiday season, but that it “may be pushed back.” Allegedly there were some problems with working remotely to finish the project. According to Fanbyte’s sources:
“The third Xenoblade Chronicles game in development at Monolith Soft is a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, currently the best-selling game in the series. The ending of the trilogy takes place in the far-flung future with a few returning characters who have long-outlived their human counterparts from both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.”
From the Nintendo UK Xenoblade Chronicles 3 website:
“Bringing together the futures of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, this title will take players to the world of Aionios, home to two hostile nations.”
Similar, yes? There is no official confirmation, but because of Melia’s lineage as a High Entia, she has a much longer lifespan than humans and most other life forms. It would make sense if she were in the game, and that would explain Jenna Coleman’s knowledge and involvement in the project.
None of this is confirmed, but it sounds credible enough. We personally believe Melia will be in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but not simply for the reasons given here.
We’ll find out soon enough when September 2020 rolls around and the game finally releases.
