Many regard Super Mario RPG as the pinnacle of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It’s one of the most memorable RPGs of all time. The director of Super Mario RPG, Chihiro Fujioka, has come out and stated that he would love to make a sequel to the classic RPG to finish out his career.

Yeah, I would absolutely love to make one… in my career I’ve been involved with a lot of games, and I would really like my final one to be another Mario RPG game if possible.”

I think Mario & Luigi is cool, but I would like to go back and create a Mario RPG where you’re only controlling Mario.”

Fujioka was asked if he had any story ideas for a Super Mario RPG sequel, but stated that it was a “secret.”

If this could somehow come to fruition, the internet would explode. Fans have wanted a true sequel to Super Mario RPG ever since the original was released in 1996 for the SNES. While the Mario and Luigi games were fun, they could never quite reach the heights of Super Mario RPG. No “Mario” RPG has, and none likely ever will. Unless, however, there is a sequel. Make it happen Nintendo!
