During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced an expansion pass for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. This is the second piece of Zelda news in the Direct, preceding the news of the newly-announced Skyward Sword HD. The expansion pass will cost $19.99 and will be released in waves. First, on May 28, a new costume and a new weapon will be available to those who purchase the pass. The first proper wave comes in June, which will include an expanded roster, newly added weapon types, new challenges in the Royal Ancient Lab, and newly added challenging enemies.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Expansion Pass

Wave 2, which will be available in November of 2021, will include new character vignettes, newly added stages, an expanded roster, and new battle skills for existing characters. For $19.99, this isn’t a bad deal, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was one of the best games for the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and probably the best Dynasty Warriors game to date. Whether an expansion pass is warranted for the game is up to debate, but an expansion pass is a nice touch for the hack-and-slash and prequel to Nintendo’s hit Zelda game Breath of the Wild and is yet another great way to celebrate Zelda’s 35th anniversary, intentional or not.
