Koei Tecmo has announced a record third quarter this past year, and much in part of that is due to Hyrule Warriors: Age of CalamityHyrule Warriors Age of Calamity sales have been revealed, and it shipped 3.5 million units, making it the best-selling Musou/Warriors game of all-time. The Nintendo/Koei Tecmo partnership on the Zelda franchise has gone back to 2014, when the original Hyrule Warriors was released. Due to the popularity of Breath of the Wild, and the prequel story that everyone has wanted to see, Age of Calamity saw record sales and helped bear fruit to this partnership. Age of Calamity wasn’t the only game that sold well for Koei Tecmo though. Nioh 2 sold 1.4 million copies worldwide, which is 600,000 more units than were revealed since last May. Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy, an Asia-only title, has had strong sales, selling 220,000 copies, which is up from the 150,000 copies sold during its first week of release. Another title, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV has shipped 100,000 units.

Age of Calamity has helped catapult Koei Tecmo into elite status. They have always been a high-quality developer, but the sales numbers for the latest Hyrule Warriors game has been uncanny. Being on the Nintendo Switch definitely helps, but Koei Tecmo continues to prove the quality of their products. With the Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity sales, there are sure to be more collaborations between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo in the future.
