Engine Software has revealed that the No More Heroes ports of the first two games took two months to develop on the Nintendo Switch. Suda 51 clamored for 1 and 2 to be released on the Switch, and he got his wish. This happened thanks to Engine Software. Nintendo Everything interviewed them, and they revealed a bit about the development process.
“It took us about five to six months start to finish of pure development time. So that excludes all legal steps and evaluation of the source material, and discussions about what we want the port to be.”
The games were ports of the Wii versions of the games and not the high-definition PlayStation 3 ports of the game. Engine Software goes on to explain why they made that choice.
“Suda-san was clear from the start he wanted to work off the Wii original versions. We briefly discussed adapting some of the changes made in Heroes Paradise into the original game but having looked at the differences between the versions it became clear early on that the PS3 version is very different from the Wii version (as low level as 3D models having more bones and a totally different naming convention). I think for the sake of style, it was a decision on an aesthetic level by Suda51 to use the originals (since there was no HD version of No More Heroes 2).”
So all in all, it was Suda 51’s choice to port the Wii versions, not the PlayStation 3 versions, of No More Heroes 1 and 2 to the Nintendo Switch. No More Heroes III is set to be released in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and is one of the most anticipated titles for the platform. Will it live up to the legacy of its predecessors?
