Earlier this morning, Bethesda Game Studios posted an image on every social media website they are a part of. The image that was sent out is of a gif stating the words “Please Stand By.” This is an obvious nod to the Fallout series, but the question remains, what could this mean?

Fallout 5
This seems to be the rumor that many are hoping for. There is a decent amount of chatter regarding a Fallout 5 set in New York, however, this does not seem like a possibility. Fallout 4 was released in 2015 and has continued to receive patches and DLC over the next year or so. This does not allow the developers over at Bethesda Game Studios to create an entirely new iteration to the series. These are big RPGs that take time and deserve some care. Those that are holding out for this game may have to just wait a bit longer.
Fallout 3 Remastered
The other rumor that has been circulating is over a possible Fallout 3 Remastered Edition. This would make the most sense especially with 2018 being the 10th anniversary of Fallout 3’s release for last-gen consoles. A reveal of this game would allow for the Nintendo Switch to receive a Fallout game which many have wanted. It is the one theory that makes the most sense for the developer.
Fallout New Vegas Remastered
This is an extremely unlikely possibility. The developers of this game were not Bethesda Game Studios but instead was Obsidian Entertainment. It would be strange to see this company promote another’s work, especially within the same series. Not only this, but Obsidian also sent out a tweet cryptically stating they have no role in the upcoming announcement.

Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch Port
A Fallout 4 port for the Nintendo Switch would make perfect sense. If Bethesda can make DOOM and Skyrim run well on the console then this is a possibility. However, this is not something that the company would spend a ton of time attempting to hype up their fans. Most likely, we would see this on stage during their E3 conference and not in a stand-alone stream.
Fallout 4 Story Expansion
Now, this would be something that makes total sense. Recently, Kotaku stated that what they know of this reveal is that it is a new game. As we previously stated, a Fallout 5 would not be given ample amount of time to work as well as it could. A massive story-based expansion could be what is in the pipeline. During last year’s E3 event, Bethesda announced Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. This was originally set to be DLC content for Dishonored 2 but its scope became too large and it saw a standalone release. This could be the route that the announcement follows.
It is unknown when whatever is planned will be revealed. There is currently a Twitch stream taking place that shows a Vault Boy bobblehead in front of the “Please Stand By” sign. Gamers may be able to see what is in store as early as tomorrow.
