Four months ago or so I’d never even heard of Fortnite. Now it seems to be one of the industry’s fastest-growing games. As if the game’s muscles didn’t need to be flexed any futher, an epic Fortnite and Marvel Infinity War crossover is coming to fruition on tomorrow, May 8, which stays in tune with Fortnite Season 4’s Superhero theme. What’s amazing is how Epic Games managed to net this blockbuster deal with Marvel. This is a game changer for Fortnite and will catapult it well above any other Battle Royale title on the market. Partnering with Marvel means instant success.

The Mad Titan Thanos is coming. According to Entertainment Weekly, who received exclusive details about the much-anticipated crossover event, Thanos will be wreaking havoc in Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode tomorrow for a limited time. It actually canonically makes sense, as with the Reality Stone, Thanos can jump realities at will. Fortnite is now officially a part of the MCU! And that’s not too far off, because the Russo brothers, who directed Infinity War, are massive Fortnite fans.

“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe exclusively told EW. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

That would be Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games.

“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” Mustard recalled. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

The name of this limited-time mode is ‘Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup’, and while it seemingly plays like the normal Battle Royale mode, there is a game-changing catch. 100 players will fight to the death until the last man stands, as usual, but the Infinity Gauntlet will spawn on the map. Whoever manages to lay their hands on the Gauntlet will transform into the Mighty Thanos himself with the power of the Infinity Stones at their disposal. Sheer power to remake the Universe as they see fit. This would surely ensure victory, but it will be interesting to see how it culminates in the game. Can Thanos be killed?

Fortnite is free to download on PS4, Xbox, PC, Mac, and iOS.

This probably isn’t the last collaboration between Fortnite and Marvel, but you don’t want to miss out on the action tomorrow!
