Nintendo announced in a video on their YouTube channel that Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei V is coming to the West for the Nintendo Switch! The previous game in the series, Shin Megami Tensei IV, was regarded as one of the best RPGs on the Nintendo 3DS and the Shin Megami Tensei franchise is one of Atlus’ most prized properties. Persona is actually a spinoff of the latter. This is a huge coup for Nintendo. No release date has been given, but from what little has been shown so far, it seems infinitely promising. The game also runs on Unreal Engine, which simply shows that the Switch is not just an overpowered GameCube.

While Nintendo claimed that the Switch was not replacing the Nintendo 3DS, it seems that it is doing just that. PókemonShin Megami Tensei, and others are abandoning the platform for the promise of the Nintendo Switch. This is no surprise though; the graphics for Nintendo’s latest console-hybrid put the 3DS to shame and the 3DS is getting old.

Shin Megami Tensei V is Coming to the West

Shin Megami Tensei V takes place in modern-day Tokyo until disaster strikes. Other than that, details are scarce, except what is said in the trailer.

All of the fountains of the Great Deep broke up and the windows of heaven were opened. In this lightless age of corruption, we long for the dawn of a new messiah.

Shin Megami Tensei V coming to the west

If it comes out in 2018, it will only add to Nintendo’s steller Nintendo Switch lineup. Hopefully the game has a direct of its own in the upcoming year and comes out sooner than later.
