Ubisoft just came out with their latest quarterly financial report with record-breaking success. The company had their best quarter in company history and says that much of this is due to the Nintendo Switch. Along with the report, Ubisoft announced they are the top third-party publisher for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo and Ubisoft have had a fantastic relationship since the release of the Switch, and Nintendo even lent Ubisoft their top mascot, Mario, for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which was enormous for the company. Nintendo doesn’t let other companies use their franchises, and for good reason. This goes to show you how much trust Nintendo puts into Ubisoft. Not only that, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has sold very well on the system. It has sold 2 million copies and is consistently among one of the top-selling games on the eShop. Ubisoft executive Frederick Duguet had this to say about the company’s success on the Switch.
“We’re also reaping the benefits of the Switch’s huge success and our position as leading third-party publisher on the platform thanks to, among others, our Just Dance games and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. The depth and breadth of our catalog, which goes beyond the brands mentioned, provides us with ever-greater visibility and continues to be a strong driver of profitability.”
It will be interesting to see what games Ubisoft brings to the Switch in 2021.
