Blizzard has finally confirmed that they will be adding 4K resolution support for the Xbox One X. Hot on the heels of all the announcements made during Blizzcon, and with great sales so far for the Xbox One, it only makes sense to utilize the power of this brand new machine.
We’ve seen Xbox One X enhanced patches that have utilized the power of the new system for games such as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Destiny 2, and now Blizzard is developing a way for Overwatch to utilize the power with 4K gaming support for the vibrant title.
“Overwatch team is excited with great possibilities Xbox One X opens. The team is currently exploring how the game experience can be enhanced on this platform to leverage the console’s incredible hardware, and is working on implementing 4K resolution in the game on Xbox One X. It is very important for the team to make sure the user interface looks natural on a truly big screen. We will share more details about our plans for 4K support on Xbox One X later.”
With that being said, it’ll be interesting to see how exactly Overwatch and its “cartoony” art style benefits from 4K gaming. They mention the interface looking natural, which is, of course, something to focus on, but is 4K Overwatch really necessary?
How beautiful and vibrant will the world will be, with new maps such as Blizzardworld, that have so much attention to detail. 4K gaming may bring out the little nuances of the map that we may have missed before.
Here’s to hoping we’ll get an update for the PS4 Pro as well but I imagine that’s probably not too far behind.
