Nintendo has something up their sleeves. Earlier this week, we revealed that Phantom Hourglass has been given a fresh trademark in Australia. Today, we can report that there are three more Zelda trademarks that have been discovered in the country. Those games are Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and The Wind Waker. Both Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword would need a brand-new makeover, but that has been rumored for years now. Nintendo could simply port the HD version on the Wii U to the Switch without a problem. There are now four The Legend of Zelda games that have received brand-new trademarks. If it were just one or two, and they had been done at different points in time, you could say it’s a coincidence. Four games at once says to me that Nintendo is preparing for the series’ 35th anniversary.

While Phantom Hourglass would need to get rid of its touch controls, it would be a nice addition (and an underplayed one) to Nintendo’s lineup of Zelda games they’re going to release in 2021. There has been much speculation that Nintendo will do for Zelda what they did for Mario — and I think for the most part this is true. Nintendo never does exactly the same thing twice, so look for something similar to a 35th-anniversary compilation, but with a twist. Skyward Sword, if it comes out for Switch, will most likely be a stand-alone title. They may even do more than one release for 2D games and one for 3D, or one collection of games relating to the Hero of Time, etc. There are so many avenues they could take. These trademarks are promising though, and, we’re very excited for the prospect of Skyward Sword, one of the most underrated games in the franchise, to finally get the kind of release it deserves.
