Nintendo has rolled out a brand new update for the Nintendo Switch with some really cool new features. The Nintendo Switch system update 4.0.0 includes:

  • Video capture for select games
  • New profile icons featuring characters from the Super Mario Odyssey™ game and The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild game
  • Transfer user profiles and save data to another system
  • Pre-purchase option is available for certain games on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch

There are two new features here that stand out.

First, Nintendo is finally allowing users to transfer their save data to another system. This is a necessity, considering if the console breaks or needs to be replaced, you would lose all of your save data otherwise, as save data is tied to the Switch system and not the cartridges. Switch owners have been clamoring for this since day one. It’s great to see they now have this option.

Two, Nintendo is allowing video capture for select games. This is really cool. While I own a capture card and could do this regardless, your everyday gamer doesn’t have this ability. It’s an extension of the Switch as a social device. The ability to share your gameplay with others is an awesome ability to have. Will it be integrated with Facebook too? I wonder what “select” games these are? What games in the future will allow it?

Regardless, this is a system update which will make Switch owners very happy.
