In a call following Nintendo’s release of their financial report, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that they are not planning on announcing a new Nintendo Switch model “anytime soon.” Furukawa emphasized that Nintendo is currently focusing on the new Mario Switch edition and the Monster Hunter bundle as examples of what the company is working on. Rumors have been spreading for a few years now that Nintendo would release a Pro version of the Switch with upgraded specs that can run games at a much higher performance. This rumor has yet to be realized. While Nintendo has closed the door on an imminent announcement, that doesn’t mean that an announcement isn’t out of the question. In an interview with Forbes, Furukawa stated last year that they weren’t planning on releasing a new model of the Switch at all. Now, he’s saying they simply aren’t announcing one “at this time.” It may be semantics, but given the persistent rumors, Nintendo could very well announce a Pro version of the Switch by the end of this year. At this point, anything could happen. Nintendo always plays things very close to the vest, and the Switch Lite rumor did pan out. We’ll just have to see if, or when, Nintendo will announce a new Nintendo Switch model.
