With the next Nintendo of the next Nintendo Direct just swooping over us, what better time is it to speculate on what will be announced? There are endless possibilities given that this is Nintendo, but hopefully, they follow through on the titles they’re already working on. The Nintendo Switch has a plethora of software and it’s hard to choose just a couple of big-name games that will be shown, but only a few selected will be ready to be shown and will release this year.
Splatoon 3
Splatoon 2 was one of Nintendo’s biggest hits on the Nintendo Switch, just falling outside the top 10 (in the previous report, it was stated to have sold 12.45 units.) This is incredible for a franchise that a relatively unknown until a few years ago. Splatoon knows what it’s up against it, but I wouldn’t doubt if it became the Call of Duty of Nintendo games…only good.
Bayonetta
Nintendo gave Platinum Games to continue the series, and it’s been a blast. Bayonetta 2 was spectacular and Bayonetta 3 will surely follow in its footsteps. After almost a decade later, we’re finally getting Bayonetta 3, which may seem like a miracle to many. Who knows whether it was in development hell or not, the thing that matters is that it will be coming out, hopefully without any unwanted bugs.
The Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD Remaster
I know this is beating a dead horse, but Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker are two games that need to come to Switch. Not only from a consumer perspective but a business perspective as well. Breath of the Wild holds roughly a 25% attach rate to the system. Meaning everyone who owns a switch, 1/4 is likely to own the game. Nintendo, since Breath of the Wild’s release, has failed to capitalize on this success. The Link’s Awakening remake sold approximately 5 million units, while Skyward Sword HD, yes It is somewhat new, but has sold just 3.58 million copies. This is unacceptable. They need to release these to coincide with the release of Breath of the Wild 2 to capitalize on the enormous market which has so much untapped potential.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the best RPGs in recent memory. It had story, action, adventure, and a wonderful cast of characters. The stage has been set for a sequel, and the staff at Monolith want to work on it (in addition to a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X.) Monolith has such great ideas and has already created one of, if not the best RPG studios in all of gaming. Xenosaga Chronicles 3 isn’t a matter of if, but when. Hopefully, that “when” is tomorrow.
Breath of the Wild 2
While The Breath of the Wild was somewhat of a disappointment, this new game could be the best in the series. Ganondorf has finally returned to full form since 2006, and Link will face his greatest nemesis. There’s also the fact that Link travels up into the sky; remanents of Skyloft? This would add such a nice touch and give both older players and new players alike a sense of awe and exploration. That being said, dungeons need to return in a semi-traditional format (the shrines were ridiculous) and some rewarding NPC quests would be nice. With Ganondorf back though, this has catapulted it to our list of predictions for the February 2020 Nintendo Direct!
