The last Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC character is approaching, and we have the perfect candidate: KOS-MOS, from the Xenosaga franchise. KOS-MOS is not only immensely popular both in Japan and the West, despite the perceived shortcomings of Xenosaga, but she just appeared as a blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Though there was just a Xeno character released in Mythra/Pyra, how many Fire Emblem characters are there again? Oh yeah, I forgot. KOS-MOS would be the perfect addition to the franchise with not only her popularity but her potential moveset as well.
KOS-MOS’ fighting prowess is unmatched. She has several special moves, but one, in particular, stands out: X Buster. This is a barrage of beams she uses to fight gnosis and obliterate them for good; they’re the enemies in the Xenosaga franchise. She would bring something new to the Super Smash Bros. franchise that simply isn’t there. She’s such a multifaceted character with a variety of moves that can be used and she would be an incredible addition to Ultimate. It’s not like the character isn’t popular; she is, immensely, still, after all these years.
KOS-MOS is actually the one blade that I never attained in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 after over 365 hours playing the game. So I don’t know how she plays in that game. But one aspect I can attest to that KOS-MOS will bring to Smash Bros. is some of the best video game music of all time by Yuki Kajiura and the possibility for some of the best stages to ever grace the series. If they were to use the piece “Promised Pain” on Michtam’s underground ruins, where you fight Zarathustra, it would be nothing short of epic. The music by Kajiura for Xenosaga is so good, and the set pieces for the series are excellent. There’s no shortage of potential stages to choose from and the music, well, take your pick. Quite literally. There’s epic, somber, uplifting; every type of music you could possibly imagine. That’s how good the soundtrack is in Xenosaga, which is why it was such a shame that the series was canceled.
KOS-MOS is the perfect pick as the last DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She’d have the moveset, the epic stages, and in addition to all of that, add some really incredible music. She’d be an asset to the Smash franchise. Given her popularity both in Japan and in the West, despite the last Xenosaga game coming out in 2006, she still reigns supreme and has appeared in a number of crossover games. Why not Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? It’s a valid question.
Hopefully, we learn who the last DLC character is soon, though it will be closer to fall in all likelihood, but KOS-MOS is a fantastic choice and will add something to Smash Bros. that it doesn’t have. And those opportunities don’t arise very often.
