Rey from The Force Awakens is a widely popular character, but J.J. Abrams may have let something slip about the parentage of the young heroin at the Tribeca Film Festival. In an interview, he stated that Rey’s parents were not shown in The Force Awakens.

“Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.”

Abrams later backpedaled though in a statement with Entertainment Weekly, and said that what he meant was that Rey from The Force Awakens does not learn of her parentage in Episode VII.

What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.

With Abrams backpedaling the way he did, it seems almost obvious that Rey’s parents are already in her lives. It is highly speculated that she is in fact Luke Skywalker’s daughter, which would make sense, as she was able to defeat Kylo Ren, who carries the Skywalker bloodline and is strong with the Force.
